authors become fellows (recognized specialists) of a scientific society. A
certificate of fellow mentioning the specialty researched (out of 62 in total) is
awarded.
Society Journals of Academia Livre de PMC-Conservatório Interativo (FLPMC Collections and Training, Professional Certificate and Graduate Programmes)
Forming the 4 Scientific Societies for over 101 Specialties and 13 Subjects

The 2 official scientific societies (specialist colleges) for publishing journals, organizing lectures on Lusophone music, and supporting early
career researchers.
Upon acceptance in the Fellowship level training (i.e., 9 months of Advanced Training) the graduate-trainee will be awarded the membership of Fellow with 1 of the 2 official Scientific Societies (specialist colleges) of "Real" Academia Livre de Performers de Música Contemporânea - Conservatório Interativo.

(please note that this is a professional title and membership for ALPMC-CI Certificate or PgCert (3-part programme); our fellowship additional qualification is preceded by an accredited course of study - it is an official form of Fellowship Certification (post-master's certificate - assessment of competency for research/advanced training) in one Specific Musical topic (eg. analysis of a musical style or applying an advanced performing technique) that is preceded by the 2 accredited Academy's qualifications (3 stages) of Performer in Popular Music (i.e., the pre-requisites). The DipALPMC-CI is our Graduate level degree (granting UC college credits) - a Specialization in Popular Music (408 hours of approved course curriculum/effective training, similar to a 'lato sensu' program in Brazil) which is eligible for applying to CCPFC Council teacher's credits in Portugal (an individual accreditation process), or from a Council in another European or Lusophone country.
'Research in Contemporary Music Performance' Journal is one of the 2 official bodies (journals) of the Academy Scientific Societies and aims to publish abstracts of practitioner research essays. 'Carlophone - Advanced Training in Education through Music' Journal is the other journal. The 2 official Scientific Societies (specialist colleges) have an international Journal with an Editorial Board - these 2 editorial boards together originated the so called 'Peer Council'.
The Journal 'Research in Contemporary Music Performance' is a scientific practitioner-type biannual publication that publishes academic essays of music practitioners, music manuscripts and music specialty concepts.
The scientific journal in PMC also accepts dissertations from Fellow-trainees in English or Portuguese
for peer-review and editorial feedback, and publishes abstracts.
The Fellow Member can submit articles for publication in the journal of the specialist college where the fellow is registered.
The Fellowship Support (non stipend or bursary) is an opportunity at no cost, only available to Members to obtain CPD Advanced Training (Professional Development at postgraduate degree level) in music performance/music analysis research (depending on the specialist college) to acquire other specialized knowledge and research-based expertise that was not acquired during
the externally accredited Programme of Continuing and Specialized Education in Popular Music.
The Fellowship Training Certification is not awarded by a college or university, or certified by a regulatory body for teaching in higher education. We have included them as a service from our specialist societies for academy members that graduate from the chartered and externally accredited ALPMC-CI Cert. or PgCert. of Performer in Popular Music (delivered by the 'Interactive Conservatory' tutorial system)
who might be looking for additional experience in the field of practitioner music research (performance or education). It is required to become a Member of the Academy to register for Fellowship Training by Research Assessment. There are no fees for these fellowship programmes.
Umbrella Council (i.e., chartered) made up of 3 professional bodies: Academia Livre de Performers de Música Contemporânea - Conservatório Interativo, Portugal
CPD Training: Dissertation Assessment for Fellowship in Contemporary Music Performance or in Education through Music (non bursary/non stipend)
The pre-requisite accredited musical training: Certificate or Postgraduate Certificate of Performer in Popular Music
Recognition: the candidate receives the additional Fellowship Certification and becomes registered as a Fellow member in 1 of the 2 specialist colleges (colleges for fellows). This advanced training and membership is preceded by an approved (and externally accredited) higher level continuing education qualification. The FPMC or FPMC(EM) title will be granted after the approval of an academic essay of independent research in 1 musical specialty or specific performing technique (out of 45 available) at postgraduate level (beyond a university level vocational degree or a bachelor degree). Guidance on preparing the research paper will be provided initially but no tutoring or moderation will be given after this. The aim and objective is producing independent research work that will be judged by our Peer Council before being published in the appropriate society journal. An high quality of academic writing and presentation is expected. The candidate's own approach of writing, improvising or arranging music will be assessed as well as its analytical and historical contextualization within 1 musical specialty chosen by the candidate. A few ideas for writing a research proposal are given in the middle of this website page. As a general rule the word-counting limit is up to 12,000 words for this academic essay (specialist dissertation). A research proposal should be received before the full essay research work to determine if the subject or topic approched fits one of our society Journals.

professional development in 1 music specialty of your choice. The minimum pre-requisite for Fellowship is the completion of our academically approved programme: the 3-part Professional and Graduate level Certificate continuing education and specialised training.
Please note that 'Research in PMC' is a practitioner-type journal for professional performing musicians, which publishes essays, opinion articles, abstracts, music manuscripts and specialist music concepts, and it is not a generalist academic journal.

The journal publishes high quality abstracts of music practitioners.
Basic academic writing skills are necessary to obtain prior editorial
approval.
This is an opportunity to gain some research
experience.

Guidelines for research essays in areas accepted by the international journal:
Areas covered/accepted for the required independent research essay
1. Music Performance Techniques (i.e., technical issues
of any plucked-string instrument);
2. Improvisation or/and Extemporisation (i.e., non-jazz/baroque and
popular/jazz);
3. Arranging and Composition in any contemporary popular
music/jazz specialties (out of 40 in total);

Example of items to be addressed in a essay
History of Jazz Music up to the Swing Era
Genesis: jazz is Afro-American music brought from the
African slaves to the America, who were forced to learn classical-type music
from European dances, but introducing the syncopation to melody notes. Cakewalk
and ragtime was the 1st music of the XIX century under this
classification.
Origin: Jazz originated in New Orleans, USA, in the
XIX century, with music of the black and white men played together,
which was called Dixieland. This was the 1st time that black and white
musicians played together in a band setting. They were made, mostly of amateur
musicians.
Development: dixieland and Hot Jazz styles were
developed until the 30s of the XX century with Dixie and hot jazz bands, and it
became an industry for professional musicians, firstly, in Chicago. Later, in
1932, the Swing Era has begin with the Ellington’s jazz hit ‘It Don’t Mean a
Thing’.
Influences: the Swing was influenced by ragtime and
Dixieland musicians, and the hot jazz bands and western swing bands influenced
the first swingers in the Duke Ellington and Count Basie big bands.
Incorporating a musical technique/concept/idea: for example, re-arranging Cakewalk type melodies in minor 3rds, and altered harmonies for atonal
improvisation.
(Candidates must produce and provide appropriate figures of sheet music, demonstrating and
supporting the argument).
The example above it is not an actual essay proposal for the fellowship. It is
only to introduce future trainees to the type of items that must be addressed for any chosen topic, and
what these items mean. The musical
technique/concept purposed must be to an appropriate standard (i.e., postgraduate level) - An APA Standard formatting style is used.
